Hungarian Scouting

April 22, 2017, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

The #46 Bánffy Kata Hungarian Girl Scout Troop and the #7 Erős Gusztáv Boy Scout Troop located in New York City have been providing scout programming for over 60 years.

We welcome all Hungarian children who are over 6 years of age, every other week at the Hungarian House of New York. These scout meetings involve learning practical scouting skills, along with Hungarian folklore, history, traditions, customs and folksongs passed down from generation to generation. Each program occurs in patrols, where scouts come together with other children their age.

Not only do we meet within the Hungarian House, we go on outings, which include camping, skiing, canoeing, bicycling and much more. These events bring scouts together where they become lifelong friends and advance their scouting knowledge. All of our programs are conducted in Hungarian therefore scouts practice their language as well.

During the spring of 2017 we hold a reciting competition at 1st April; there are no gatherings at 8th April and 15th April; we organize a trip to the nature at 29th April; and also there is a trip at 6th May. There is a steeplechase at Fillmore, NY at 26-27th May, and there is a Hungarian Day at New Brunswick at 3rd June. The last meeting in the season is held at Hungarian House of New York at 10th June; there is an competition at 11th June; and a family trip at 11th June.

Every Hungarian-speaking child, no matter the skill level, is welcome to join!

Meetings: Saturdays, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm
